to Starting Sequence
of first start

 

DOCK


Before you leave the dock make sure you have these items:

  • Course Board
  • Flags
  • Committee Boat Brief Case (which includes):-GPS (for measuring distance if using movable marks.
  • Scoring sheets and pen.(list of boats to record finish times.)
  • Non-empty air can and horn.
  • Any Marks, rode or anchors if needed for course.


STARTING LINE

Starting Line:
Enough wind?
(Postpone, Abandon)
If not, postpone by raising postpone flag and sound horn twice.
If wind is not expecting to fill in after a reasonable amount of time; Abandon by raising abandon flag and sound horn three times.

If Wind,
Anchor committee into the wind with opposite side of starting line to port. Distance from opposite side of starting line equal to 1.5 times the length of all boats end on end of the largest fleet start. Finally, position committee boat so that the starting line is perpendicular to the wind.


START

3rd Person
-Sound horn once on every flag up or down.

4th Person
-Recall Flags

Sight down starting line (flag and opposite mark), if any part of boat is over before start raise individual recall flag and attempt to hail boat. Do not lower recall flag until entire over early boat is back on starting side of starting line.

(Everyone else continue on with starting sequence.)

If, unable to determine which boats were over early raise general recall flag. Restart this class again after other fleets have started.



Starting Sequence

To help inform fleet, the Committee boat may raise a red flag 5 min before they begin the starting sequence for the first start.

During Race
After all the boats have started, keep your eye on the wind. If it looks like the wind may not be enough for boats to finish, you may have to shorten course. Raise the shortened course flag and position your boat for the finish.
If, leading boat of a class is unable to finish, abandon their race. However, if any boat within a class finishes before call time you must score the rest in that class.

Finish

Anchor committee into the wind with opposite side of starting line to starboard (opposite of start). Distance from opposite side of starting line equal to 1.5 times the length of all boats end on end of the largest fleet start. Position committee boat so that the starting line is perpendicular to the windward mark. Finally, blue flag must be flown to signify you are the finish.
